Hi,

As your probably aware there has been a thunderstorm raging over Brno for about an hour. I was wondering if anyone knew of any damage that has been caused, or any storm related events/stories. I have been watching it from my balcony, and I have to say this is the strongest thunderstorm I have ever seen.

I like thunderstorms, particularly the lightening. Unfortunately we dont get very many where I am from, but it seems this is one more thing to love about Brno Smile

Anyone have anything to add?

Thunderstorm in Brno

Heard there were some bad storms last week. Was on holiday in sunny Croatia. Also heard that at Pohoda festival in Trencin, Slovakia a huge tent fell on the crowd and killed one, three are fighting for their lives and injured over 25. Normally I would be at that festival if I wasn't on holidays.

No storm last night, what's going on? creepy? I blame global warming. Puzzled

BTW during Wednesday night's storm a tree came down just near our flat narrowly missing the thankfully unoccupied nursery school next to it.

Indoor waterfall

Yes indeed another amazing storm last night. Admin and I watched in amazement as a badly leaking roof allowed water to pour in to the Rozkvet pasaz (between Nam. Svobody and Radnicka).

The resulting waterfall destroyed a large screen TV outside the Amsterdam pub much to the amusement of onlookers. No doubt the insurance companies will be busy today.

Stormy Weather

Last nights storm was another cracker and I am betting that waterfall was in action again. But is it me or has there been a lot more storms than usual?

I LOVE STORMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOO WOO WOO ... so happy to see I'm not the only crazy on this site!! Maybe it's because I come from cyclone territory. I miss a good cyclone every month or so in summer in the tropics.

But the storms in Brno are magnificent!!! Smile Lots of banging and pounding rain ... washes so much cr@p off the streets.

Bring it on!

storms

A yes! nothing like a good big prairie storm! The storms we got back in my home province in Canada were big and lasted a while. Lots of lightning and thunder, very awe inspiring.

The storm the other night here was alright, but had a ways to go before touching the ones you can get over on the open plains in North America.

I heard that 13 people died last week as a result of the storms, areas around Olomouc were hit pretty badly.

Storm Damage

Have a look at TV Nova news 7.30pm they usually have a good run down on the worst affected places. North Moravia and South Bohemia are the places worst hit by the floods this time round, so far anyway.

It is really sad to see people who have lost everything basically except the shirt on their back. The power of the flash floods is truly amazing although I can't help but wondering if some of it isn't down to poor building standards.

As for lightning I saw a documentary a couple of weeks ago that featured people whose lives had been transformed after being hit by lightning and surviving unscathed. So, watch out Big smile
