Seatbelts

Any expat drivers been stopped and fined in CR for not wearing a seat belt? How did you feel? Heard some Czech guys on the radio this morning moaning as they had been caught out and it cost them 1,000Kc. What struck me was they didn't seem to think what the police were doing was a "good thing" like trying to save their lives or something ( see TV Nova news any night of the week).

Clearly they didn't have a Czech Jimmy Saville equivalent in the 70s to batter the message into their brains! I think it's an automatic thing for most "westerners" isn't? Though not here apparently.

I just remembered a few years ago in Georgia (the country not the US state)I went to "belt up" in a taxi which had clearly seen a few accidents in its time. My guide quickly told me not to do it as wearing a seatbelt was seen as a bad reflection on the skills of the driver!
