Last night on the "news" from 1989 there was a studio interview on the acute shortage of mens'underwear with the boss of the factory involved.(a sort of communist version of Watchdog) It was also impossible to buy a bike at that time. What I find interesting is that it was possible to openly discuss these things on TV.
Another interesting thing is that there is a modern banner added along the bottom of the screen with "hindsight" saying how the situation would change in the very near future. The people appearing on the screen of course couldn't have forseen these changes at the time.
